Words With Friends has really changed my life. I play when I wake up, before bed, & every minute I’m awake.

Dreams

I had a cool dream where I was at my grandma’s house in her back yard.  I could see far across the horizon, and I saw a rocket launch.  It looked awesome, and then I got to see another one launch.  Some debris fell on the ground, and I was really excited because they were free souvenirs.  They were thumb gloves (do those even exist?), some documents, and something else that I can’t remember.  I was most excited about the documents because they had flight plans and other information that was just cool to have.

One Year Ago Today

I have to say that during my visit to Rochester, Steve (Goss) was really nice and helpful to me.  When I came back to the apartment late the first night I found the futon pulled out with an inflated air mattress and blankets all laid out, which he did unprompted.  I really appreciated that, and I believe I thanked him the next day but it was a really nice thing to do.  Then this morning when I woke up he made pancakes, and made some huge ones and gave some to me.  So he was really nice and a good friend to me, like he’s always been.  So on the first day I went to Cru and played poker with some of those guys, then talked with Jamey later in the night.  On this day a bunch of us went to Jamey’s and played a couple games of Monopoly (which I lost) and Killer Bunnies (which I also lost).  It was really fun to hang out with all of them again.

Thoughts

I had a whole thought typed out about my old watch and my new watch, but my computer shut off like it does sometimes and it didn’t save it.  I barely felt like typing it out the first time so I won’t repeat it, but the point was that I hadn’t appreciated the old one so I got a less expensive one which I’ll try to appreciate.

When watching an Acura commercial today, it sounded like the voice of James Spader who is now on The Office.  I looked it up, and sure enough I was right.  Just wanted to toot my own horn a little bit.

At church today my aunt was talking about blackjack and gambling with another woman, which is always a hard topic for me to hear.  Usually when I hear people talk about their gambling I cringe at the mention of their strategies and tendencies.  My aunt was talking about blackjack, and how if she loses three hands in a row she quits.  I thought about that, and while at the surface it might sound like a good way to keep from losing a ton, I thought about it long-term.  If you keep playing over a long period of time but stop if you lose three times in a row, if you aren’t playing perfect strategy I’d bet you are losing two of the three hands.  So every three hands you play you’ll win one and keep playing, although that gives you a net loss of one bet for every three hands (double your money once to end -1 bet).  So you play 300 hands and you’ll lose 100 bets, and the more you play the more you’ll lose.  So, not a good strategy.

My Day

I got up early for church again, and I got there a little early rather than late like last week.  The sermon was on the Transfiguration, but it was like a sequel to last week’s sermon.  In that one Jesus told a man who He healed from leprosy not to tell anyone about it, but he did.  In this one Jesus told His disciples not to tell anybody about seeing Elijah, Moses, and God’s voice in the cloud that enveloped them, and they didn’t.  The disclaimer was that He told them not to tell until He was raised from the dead, which makes it okay for the story to be written in the Bible.

When I got home I was able to relax and watch the Knicks play the Mavs on ABC because they played at 1pm.  It was a fun game to watch and I’m glad that everyone did well, and the Knicks won.  Then I had a little time to watch some Malcolm and relax before work.

The poker room was really busy, and I started at tournament sign-ups.  I took over for Vu, and then I looked up at the line and saw at least 20 people standing there waiting to register.  We ended up getting everybody, and we had 137 players.  Then I was supposed to go to a cash game, but they needed that table for the tournament so I had to go put my rack back and go to the tournament.  I got to deal $500 max but it was short-handed and not the greatest.  I did two more tournament downs tonight and had just two breaks.

At one point a guy came up to me and said he couldn’t remember which table he was at.  I asked if he remembered the general area, but he said that he was pretty buzzed and had no idea.  That was pretty funny, so the boss told him to just walk around until he recognizes his tablemates.  I had one good table later in the night, and during my second break the boss came over and said that I was being cut.  I worked 5.5 hours and finished at $2-$4, and I was happy to leave because my next down would have been $2-$4 again and I was pretty tired.  I made $93 in 5 downs which is actually decent.

The biggest bad beat though is that we just missed the timeframe to get Taco Bell, so when I got home I made some noodles to try and get some sustenance.  Then some Malcolm and Seinfeld before bed.  I have to work the next two days, then two days off followed by at least three more days.  I’ve been making good money lately between poker and work so financially things are going well.  This business won’t last forever, but I’ll be happy while it lasts.  Thanks for reading, and “She never told me she was a mime…”
