I finally changed my iPhone wallpaper to a pic of Jeremy Lin. Next: Get his jersey, then become his friend.
One Year Ago Today
It was pretty warm on this day, and it allowed me to get rid of some ice at the church. There was a big thick sheet of ice covering the area next to the driveway, and it was hard work digging it all up but it was a little fun too.
My Day
I slept in until 3pm today, and I decided I should get a haircut now and not put it off anymore. I heard kids outside and that motivated me to get there before the high school kids get out of school, but I didn’t know if that was 3 or 3:30 these days. When I walked in there was no one there, so it was beautiful. The guys weren’t done working today until after 5pm, but they finally put in the floor so the bathroom looks “almost” done. I didn’t have any time to do anything before poker, but since everyone came late I just hung out a little downstairs before we started playing.
Poker
It took over an hour for people to show up, but we went from 5 to 6 and then to 7 players so the turnout was good. I got to use my new cards so those were great, except the numbers are even bigger than my Copag decks. They’re both the jumbo index like at the casino, but the Kem cards are even more elongated and they took some getting used to.
Basically I waited for a good spot to get my money in, and I had to remind myself that my new style of play is the best although everyone else has been telling me I’m playing wrong or playing dumb. I seriously disagree because I’ve only had one losing session out of the last like 16, and that was for less than $40. I’ve also had several big paydays so I know I’m doing things right. But it’s hard because I don’t want to brag or emphasize how well I’m doing because I don’t want people to stop playing, but it’s hard to just sit there and take any kind of abuse even if it’s just joking.
So after maybe an hour I more than doubled-up when I flopped top set of Kings to Jon’s pair and open-ended straight draw, and I was afraid he already had the straight but I filled up on the river anyway. I went up to almost another buy-in after that from a couple big pots, but then when we got down to three-handed I lost some big pots to questionable plays that I made and that others made. I can’t run great every hand. I managed to get back up to $200, then $220 and $240, and I ended at $220 so up $120. I was kind of disappointed with that because I’ve been having such big nights lately, but any time I win and win over a buy-in I should be happy. We played until almost 5am, and now I’m going to bed around 7am. Thanks for reading, and “Ooo test tubes. Cool!”
