I always think something awesome might happen on my birthday. I should just be grateful if no one kills me.
Dreams
I had a dream where I was back in school, and I haven’t been to my classes in weeks so I thought it wasn’t even worth going back. That was about it.
One Year Ago Today
I woke up at noon (which was sleeping in for me last year) and hung out, then got Chinese buffet with my dad for my birthday. It was mostly relaxing, unlike the birthday I had the year before. I’ll mention it again only because it was a strange one. I had to give a talk at Crusade on my birthday, so that whole week leading up to it was spent by just working on that talk. I revised it a million times and practiced it over and over that day, and all I wanted was to give a good talk and be done. So after I spoke I could enjoy my birthday, and I had people over for poker at our apartment. I did very well, but it was just a lot of fun to hang out. It was my 21st so I had a couple sips of some beer, but I didn’t like it. Later I chose to email a girl I liked to tell her my feelings, which was an odd choice to do on my birthday. Obviously she later got back to me with a nice message of rejection. Overall it was a good birthday, but one racked with emotion.
My Day
I woke up at 2pm and didn’t have much time to do anything before work since I started at 6pm instead of the usual 7. It wasn’t that busy in the poker room, but the tournament got fairly big and that sustained it for a while. I started on break but after 10 minutes I opened a game, and I had a 3-table cash game run to start off with. I got the $500 max game early, but I had back to back $2-$4 limit games later which sucked. Overall though I can’t complain because I worked 5 hours but got 7 cash game downs. I made $133 which filled my toke box so that was pretty good.
I hoped that if people knew it was my birthday I’d get more tips. Usually I don’t tell people it’s my birthday, but in this case if it earns me more money I think it’s okay. So I was happy when Rich came over and wished me a happy birthday while I was dealing, but I didn’t even get one birthday dollar from that. He even made an announcement later but still nothing. But thankfully no one gave me much trouble so it was a good night.
Brian and I drove back home after work, and we stopped at Taco Bell on the way. He thought it closed at 2am, but it turns out it was 1am. That sucked because we got there at 1:03 so we just missed it. So we went to Subway instead, and then I had a couple hours to watch some Malcolm before going to bed. So that was my birthday. I got the story of my birth which my parents give me every year, and although it’s the same story I like hearing it. It means my parents love me, and it’s nice hearing them tell a unified story since they got divorced when I was young and usually just argue. And that’s it for the night. Thanks for reading, and I still need to get a new watch…
