My 6-week/11-session poker winning streak is over, but I finally got a shower while ours is being remodeled.
Dreams
I didn’t have any nightmares about what happened yesterday, but I didn’t sleep that easily. I kept “hearing” footsteps coming up the stairs, and I couldn’t stop envisioning men wearing masks and holding guns.
One Year Ago Today
My dad said maybe his most hilarious quote, so I’ll copy what I said about it:
He said, “I go to bed and figure maybe I won’t wake up. Then after 2-3 days someone will come in and find me, the cats will have eaten me. That reminds me, I gotta buy cat food.” My favorite part is the ending, because the thought of his cats eating him didn’t disturb him, but reminded him he needed to buy them food. And it’s an added joke that he’s buying food now in case he does die in his sleep, so this way his cats won’t eat him. I admire him for his creativity, his unplanned funniness, and his delivery.
My Day
I couldn’t really sleep that well last night, and I kept waking up throughout the morning. I finally got up at 11:30am which is much earlier than I’ve gotten up in the past few weeks. But I had some things to take care of because all of my cards and phone were stolen yesterday. In another effort to find some humor out of all of this, I had this thought: “I’m the one that gets robbed, and then I get an annoying homework assignment afterward too.” It’s bad enough I get all my stuff stolen, but then I’m the one that has to go around and get it all back now. But I was thinking about it, and I’m lucky (if you can use that word to describe this) to still have my car and my car keys. They could have easily taken the keys and made it harder for me to get home, and not having a car would have been the biggest inconvenience.
So first I went to the Verizon store to see if my insurance and or warranty covered a stolen phone, and thankfully they said it did. I was given a number to call and they said they would overnight it so I’d get it quickly. He said there is a $200 deductible, which is half the price of the phone but better than paying for the whole thing I guess. So I’ll just deal without a phone until I get the new one, because it isn’t the texting and calling so much that I miss but all the other things I had on my phone. I told them it was stolen because I wanted to make sure they got the truth in case being lost wasn’t covered. The guy asked if it was black guys, and I told them yes but I wish they weren’t. I don’t want any reason to be racist, but these guys didn’t help.
Then I went to the DMV to get a new driver’s license, and that was mostly an easy process. For them I just said I lost my wallet because I didn’t think it was necessary to say it was stolen. Saying “stolen” brings on a lot of questions I don’t want to answer, as witnessed from just saying “I don’t have a phone” on Facebook. I got confused on the form I filled out because I’m stupid sometimes, and on the suffix part I thought it meant like Mr. or Mrs., and I had to scribble that out when I realized it meant like Jr. or Sr.
After that I went to the bank to order a new debit card. I canceled it online last night, but I’m not sure what the form was that I signed. The teller just said I was all set, so hopefully I’ll see a new card in the mail soon. I was again confused when signing the form (I’m a bit disheveled). I asked if the date is the 16th, but she said it’s the 18th. I said, “Man, I am behind.” which was meant as a joke but I am really disoriented without a wallet, watch, or phone.
All of my running around didn’t take as long as I thought thankfully. I thought I might have to go to Wal Mart to get a Tracfone but I’ll just wait it out. I was planning on getting sushi today with Brian and Sondra but it wasn’t a good day for both of them, and I was fine with staying around here. So I watched some shows and then had a poker game.
Poker
I thought about not having the game tonight because I didn’t expect any more than 5 or 6 players, and we played 4-handed and then 5-handed. I was going up and down a little, but I wasn’t playing that well. That and getting in some coolers and missing boards got me down pretty low. I doubled-up through Jon at one point to stay afloat, but I was down again. The game broke when we got down to heads-up, and I didn’t want to force anything to keep my winning streak alive and I didn’t want charity either.
So I had a $34 loss today, but since I’ve won the last 11 straight days (although two of them I just broke even) I can’t complain. I haven’t lost since December 8 which is pretty good, and that loss was when I flopped a set of 10s at Foxwoods but lost a huge pot when another guy turned a set of Queens. My overall live poker winnings were just $191 after that loss, and until tonight I got it up to $1,476 which is pretty great. So it sucks that my winning streak is over, but it had to end sometime.
We played poker from 7pm until 4am, and I gave Dan a ride home. He was nice enough to let me use his shower because I haven’t taken a shower since Sunday night. That’s hard to believe because I felt so gross for so long, but it feels so good to be clean now. Now I hope our bathroom gets remodeled soon so I can shower (here) again. Now I’m going to bed around 7am, but I plan to just sleep and watch TV tomorrow so it makes no difference. And that’s it for me for today. Thanks for reading, and “He screams at the cat because it didn’t vote.”
