The band Young the Giant is a new favorite of mine. “Cough Syrup” and “My Body” are my faves. I recommend.
Dreams
There were a few I had, and I woke up from one where I was at work but we were all playing poker. Corey was there, and when moving from a table he knocked over someone’s chips or something. They asked if I was going to play too, but it was $4-$8 limit and I didn’t feel like it.
One Year Ago Today
I learned what the expression “I wouldn’t be caught dead…” meant. It means that the thought of doing something is so unappealing that even if you were dead—where it wouldn’t matter what people think of you—you still wouldn’t want to be seen doing it.
Thoughts
I mentioned before that I started listening to the band Young the Giant. I heard them first on Jimmy Fallon like a month or two ago, and then I heard it on the radio sometime later. The song was “Cough Syrup,” and it’s really catchy and I think it’s a good song. So I checked out a couple songs on YouTube, and I decided to buy their album. This is the third band I’ve heard perform on Jimmy Fallon or Jay Leno that I decided to get into a while later. The first was The Airborne Toxic Event, then Neon Trees, and those are two of my favorites now. Coincidentally, when I bought them on iTunes I saw that under the Listeners Also Bought section it had both of the other bands so I knew I was into something good.
I said before that I like when they just have one album because I’m much more likely to buy it when they’re new so I can catch the beginning of a new group. The song “My Body” is also really good, and “Apartment” is pretty good too. But after that, there are a few songs that are okay but a few that are pretty slow and not very good. So out of the 12 songs it’s about half and half, but the three bonus songs I got are pretty lame. Hopefully the album will get better the more I listen to it, but we’ll see.
I’ll fill you in on a few of the happenings around here. I mentioned that I thought I was getting sick, and thankfully that is mostly untrue. My throat still hurts—especially once I wake up—but it goes away for the most part the rest of the day. I’m sure my headache and eye pain was just from being tired, so I’m not sick.
I was hoping to come back home from Foxwoods and see that our bathroom was all done, but it is not. During the few days I was gone they only painted the outside wall, but even that isn’t a finished product. They’ve really been working painfully slow. My step-dad bought the new shower unit, and they plan to spend all of this coming week working on it. That means we’ll be without a shower for a whole week, and unfortunately as of now I have to work tomorrow. The real problem is going to be when I work Friday because I’ll have to go to my step-dad’s mom’s house (she died a couple years ago but the house is still there) to shower. That’s a much better option than finding like a school locker room or a gym or something to shower, but I’d still rather not have to drive around someplace just to take a shower.
When I got back from Foxwoods my brother’s car and conversion van were gone. I don’t know where the car is, but I know that my brother took the van and started his cross-country travels. He made it down to Myrtle Beach after about a day of driving, and he’s still there. He said he made some friends and whatnot, so he’s just been enjoying life there I guess. I’m happy for him, and I hope he has a great trip. He has the time, money, and energy/youth to take on a trip like that, so why the hell not. I just hope he keeps out of trouble, and that trouble doesn’t find him. It’s nice to not have him in the house anymore because there’s no more beating me into the shower, drinking all my Mountain Dew, and his stupid friends hanging around all the time. Maybe I’ll start to miss him eventually, but that will take a while.
My Day
I slept in another hour and a half after I wanted to, which left hardly any time to do anything before work. I thought for a second that it was Monday, and I was hoping to not have to work but it’s actually Sunday (as you know). I showered and had some cereal, and then I headed to work with Brian.
The room wasn’t too busy, and I was lucky to draw a cash game. It was alright, and the board started good but that didn’t last. The tournament was pretty big and that was the cause for the illusion of being busy, so most of the rotation was for that. I started just after the $2-$5 table but yesterday I got lucky to get both so I didn’t expect it today. But I did get the must-move table, although it was short-handed and pretty crappy. I was at another short-handed table later, and it was terrible so I hoped it’d break but it didn’t. I did get one redbird though, so it wasn’t too terrible. I only worked 5.5 hours tonight, and I made $87 from 6 downs which is pretty bad but not terrible.
After work I went back home and Brian and I watched an episode of Family Guy, and then I watched the newest Portlandia. I love it when I’m watching a show and I just have a smile on my face because I’m happy there are new episodes to see. Then I watched some Curb, took a shower because I probably won’t be able to tomorrow, and now bed. Thanks for reading, and “Would you catch me if I fall?”
